About Ms. B

I first began "Ms. B's Got Class" as a blog to record the trials and tribulations of a first year teacher. Now, as I embark on year six, this blog has remained a staple in my life. It has evolved just as I have evolved as a teacher; similarly, it is ever-changing and growing. Primarily, this blog serves as a rest stop for me to breathe and reflect.

My name is Maddie. I am 28 years old and live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with my boyfriend and our cute little puppy, Millie Louise, in a yellow stucco house near one of the state's ten thousand lakes. I have taught high school English/Language Arts for the past five years.

When I was six years old, I wrote my first short story. It was about some teenage girls who went on a date  to the drive-in with the big bullies at the school. The bullies were named Skull and Snakehead. At the end of the date, the girls dumped their popcorn and soda on the boys' heads and ran away. I am pretty sure that this was an early indicator that I was destined to be submerged in the world of teenage literature. And here I am.

In addition to flinging myself whole-heartedly in to teaching and the world of teenagers, I tend to gravitate towards all artistic outlets. I am a jack-of-all-crafts, master at none. My dabbles include Photoshop and amateur graphic design, sewing, crocheting, baking, and general DIY-Pinterest-style crafting. Martha Stewart is my idol, regardless of her criminal past ;)

This blog is an outlet that serves a variety of purposes. One, it keeps me writing; a challenge that has grown more laborious in my adult years. And two, it keeps me thinking and reflecting. I fear becoming complacent in my job and my life. If nothing else, this blog is my sanctuary and a place to record my worries, hopes, desires and successes. I challenge my students to free their minds and write, so it's only right that I do the same.

I do not see the Cold Case Julius Caesar lesson on teachers pay teachers. It looks awesome!

Hi Alesha! The site for the Cold Case Files lesson is linked in the blog post. It is not my original lesson, which is why I don't have it on my TPT site. Best of luck!

Hi Maddy! I just happened to find your site while looking for some fun stuff to talk about Caesars murder with my pupils. If found your idea very stimulating, and I'm going to try it out myself.
Greetings from Eindhoven, the Netherlands
